Capalo AI and Olana Energy Partner to Optimize 70 MW / 140 MWh Šalčininkai BESS Project in Lithuania
Helsinki, 28.10.2025 —Capalo AI has signed an agreement with Olana Energy to trade and optimize their 70 MW / 140 MWh Šalčininkai Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Lithuania. Located in the city of Šalčininkai, the project is Olana Energy’s first battery storage investment in Lithuania and one of the largest energy storage systems in the country.
Scheduled for commercial operation in Q4 2026, the standalone Šalčininkai BESS will enhance Lithuania’s grid flexibility and strengthen the country’s energy independence. Once operational, the facility will provide rapid-response balancing capacity and enable greater integration of renewable generation.
Upon commissioning, the asset will be integrated into Capalo Zeus VPP™ (Virtual Power Plant), Capalo AI’s fully automated, AI-driven optimization platform. Capalo Zeus VPP will manage the battery’s participation across all Lithuanian markets: FCR, aFRR, mFRR, Spot, and Intraday. Through real-time data analytics and adaptive optimization algorithms, the platform maximizes asset lifetime value by enabling advanced multi-market value stacking.
The Šalčininkai BESS represents a significant milestone in the Baltic energy transition and strengthens the partnership of Olana Energy and Capalo AI, as these Finnish growth companies are expanding their cooperation outside Finland. Together, they support grid stability, improve the integration of renewables, and contribute to regional energy security in emerging Eastern European markets.
“Lithuania is a strategically important market for Olana Energy. Partnering with Capalo AI ensures that the Šalčininkai BESS captures every market opportunity while delivering critical balancing capacity for the national power system,” said Ville Kaituri, Founder and CEO of Olana Energy.
“The Šalčininkai project is a key step forward for grid flexibility in the Baltics. AI-driven optimization and access to all markets are essential to maximizing the value of battery assets in today’s volatile energy environment,” said Henri Taskinen, Co-Founder and CEO of Capalo AI. “Together with Olana Energy, we’re committed to supporting the region’s transition toward a smarter, more resilient, and sustainable power system.”
