Capalo AI and Future Energy Partner to Optimize 56 MW / 168 MWh Lithuanian Battery Storage Project

MT Group is delivering the EPC infrastructure for the three-hour BESS, bringing together large-scale energy infrastructure, grid integration and AI-powered optimization.

Helsinki and Lithuania, 1 September 2026 – Capalo AI, a sustainable technology company specializing in optimization and trading of renewable and hybrid energy assets, has entered into a partnership with Future Energy, a Lithuanian renewable energy developer, to manage and optimize a 56 MW / 168 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Raseiniai, Lithuania.

The project brings together infrastructure investment, EPC delivery, and AI-driven optimization in one of Lithuania’s most significant new battery storage developments.

The BESS is planned to be completed by the end of 2026 and is expected to reach commercial operation in Q1 2027. Under the partnership, Capalo AI will provide route-to-market services for the asset, including Day-Ahead, Intraday and balancing market trading, as well as Balance Responsible Party (BRP) services, delivered through the Capalo Zeus VPP™.

With a storage capacity of 168 MWh, the Raseiniai BESS will be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Lithuania and among the country’s first commercial battery storage projects capable of storing and supplying energy for up to three hours. The longer storage duration enables more efficient participation across balancing and wholesale electricity markets while providing a broader range of services supporting the electricity system.

The facility is being delivered by MT Group, a European EPC contractor specializing in energy infrastructure. MT Group is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the BESS infrastructure and its integration into Lithuania’s high-voltage electricity system. The battery park will be connected to the Litgrid 110 kV transmission network through the expanded Raseiniai transformer substation.

Together, Future Energy, MT Group and Capalo AI combine energy infrastructure investment, EPC delivery and advanced market optimization, connecting the physical infrastructure required for the energy transition with the digital capabilities needed to operate it efficiently.

The project has also been welcomed by the Raseiniai District Municipality as a significant investment in the region and a contribution to Lithuania’s ongoing energy transformation.

The Raseiniai BESS project is being implemented by Future Energy, a company managed by UAB Zakaras Holding and AB Miesto gijos.

The project value exceeds EUR 30 million and its implementation is financed by private capital, an ILTE loan and APVA support. The battery park will be connected to the Litgrid 110 kV transmission network through the expanded Raseiniai transformer substation.

Construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, with commercial operations expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
